Check for a microchip for stray dogs
If you've found a stray dog, please have them scanned for a microchip. Most veterinary clinics, animal shelters, police stations, and some pet stores (like Petco) will scan for free. This can help you identify and contact the owner of a lost pet.
Try rehoming in your personal network
We strongly encourage that before relinquishing your pet to us or a shelter, you explore the options of rehoming your pet with a trusted friend, neighbor, coworker, or family member. While the best option is for your pet to stay with you, your pet is more likely to succeed in a home where someone you know and trust is involved.
People Helping Paws Dog Rescue is a small, 100% foster-based organization with limited resources--we do not have a shelter or kennels to keep dogs. We accept owner surrenders on a case-by-case basis, depending on the availability of foster homes and available funding.
At this time we are not able to accept dogs with a known bite history or dog aggression.
If you want to relinquish or surrender a dog, please complete the form linked below and send clear, current photos via email or Facebook Messenger. Photos are required for consideration. Our team will review your information and reach out if we are able to help.
Our Community Pet Pantry and Veterinary Assistance Program offers support to pet owners experiencing financial hardship. If you'd like to learn more about how this program can help, please email us at dogs@peoplehelpingpaws.org.
Please note: Pet supplies and funding for veterinary care are both dependent upon availability of resources.
